Ceria–zirconia nanoparticles, 2 nm in size and with an increased Ce3+ ratio, exhibit greatly enhanced scavenging performance for reactive oxygen species (ROS). In their Communication (DOI: 10.1002/anie.201704904), S.-H. Lee, T. Hyeon, et al. report the superiority of Ce0.7Zr0.3O2 nanoparticles in regulating inflammatory cells. They work as a potent ROS scavenger for multiple organ dysfunction in sepsis by reducing the mortality and inflammatory responses.
